Essentials - Adult Guinea Pig Food

Oxbow's Essentials - Adult Guinea Pig Food is made from timothy grass meal, which includes the high fiber adult guinea pigs need. However, it contains a lower level of protein, calories and calcium than alfalfa-based pellets. Adult animals’ digestive systems do not require the same level as that of younger animals. Essentials - Adult Guinea Pig contains stabilized Vitamin C and an optimal calcium-to-phosphorus ratio that helps maintain a healthy body. When fed with Oxbow grass hays and treats, Essentials - Adult Guinea Pig provides complete stabilized nutrition. Sizes: 5 lb, 10 lb, 25 lb.

Mature guinea pigs (over 6 months): Feed 1/8 cup pellets daily in addition to unlimited grass hay. Although Cavy Cuisine - Adult Guinea Pig Food is an excellent complete feed for guinea pigs, unlimited access to fresh grass hay should also be provided. Choose from Oxbow’s Western Timothy, Orchard, Oat or Botanical grass hays to provide additional natural fiber. A Great Pellet
    Rating 5 out of 5
I have fed my two-year-old guinea pigs Oxbow pellets from the beginning. When I first got them I was concerned about switching them from their old food, but they took to the Oxbow without hesitation. They enjoy their pelleted food, and their coats are quite shiny. A combination of Oxbow pellets, Oxbow hay, and vitamin C-filled veggies keeps them happy and healthy.

    Too much Calcium
    Rating 4 out of 5
My pig really loves Oxbow and it one of the best brands out there. The only thing that concerns me is the calcium level. The range is from 0.35% which is fine, but it can go all the way up to 0.85% which can be dangerous, as too much calcium can cause bladder stones.

    My Piggies LOVE these!!!
    Rating 5 out of 5
Every now & then I try feeding my pigs different food... They'll eat the treats they find in the other foods, but these are the only pellets that Darwin & Fi will eat! They LOVE them! And with the Oxbow name behind them, I shouldn't really try any others - these are the best!

My piggies go NUTS for Oxbow!
    Rating 5 out of 5
I really don't think that I can rave enough about Oxbow.

When I first started out with pigs, I just bought the cheapest food. Even though they had a plentiful supply of hay, water, grain and vitamin C, they weren't very active, and there coats were very dull. When I let them out for floor time, they didn't run around, or play with each other. So, I tried a different brand of hay and a different brand of grain. I stuck with these for about a year, and then my friend who is a small animal vet looked at my girls and recommended that I try Oxbow. I was really hesitant at first, because I would be spending about double to what I paid. So I went out on a whim and purchased Oxbow's Adult Guinea Pig Food, their Young Guinea Pig Food, and their Western Timothy hay and their Alfalfa hay.

I'm just saying that I will NEVER turn back!! I started with the suggested ratios, but all that was left in the bowl was their old food. (Their old food was really tiny and a tan-ish color.) So I continued with the ratios, then when my 4 weeks was up, they ate all 1/8 of a cup, and were squealing for more. I now give them 1/3 cup for my two adults and am now weaning the baby onto the adult's food from the young guinea pig food.

Since purchasing Oxbow, my girls are so much more playful, they love to run around their 4 by 7 C&C cage (56 inches by 78 inches), whereas before they did not. I have also noticed that they are drinking much more water and as I mentioned before, they are eating all of their food! When I took them back to my friend, she wasn't surprised, and said that Oxbow has been her clinic's food for years.

Oxbow really is the best! I will never use another brand of guinea pig hay and food again! Love it!

    Great Pellets
    Rating 5 out of 5
My two boars love these pellets but the Natural Science pellets contain better ingredients, hay as the first three ingredients, inulin, rosemary, and thyme. I'm going to try them out next time.

    The Best!
    Rating 5 out of 5
My two boys have only had these pellets from me. The oldest boy I had rescued from the SPCA and he had scurvy. It only took about 1-2 months of being on this food and vitamin C rich veggies and he was back to normal! That was 3 years ago and he is still very healthy and strong. I recommend these pellets to everyone!
