*This product is not intended for growing, active, pregnant or nursing rabbits. We encourage pet owners to feed Oxbow Essentials Young Rabbit Food during these stages of life.

Please note that these are guidelines. If your rabbit is overweight or underweight, please contact your veterinarian or Oxbow for more specific feeding information.

Seventy-five percent of your rabbit's diet should be grass hay. Oxbow offers a variety of hand-selected, high-fiber hays to enrich the life and health of your pet.

Transitioning to a New Food: Week 1, mix 3 parts current food with 1 part new food. Week 2, mix 2 parts current food with 2 parts new food. Week 3, mix 1 part current food with 3 parts new food. Week four, feed Essentials – Adult Rabbit exclusively.

Made from timothy grass meal, Essentials - Adult Rabbit is specifically designed to meet the particular nutritional needs of adult rabbits. Adult nutritional needs are lower than those of animals in the growth stage of life.

Rabbits are designed to eat and digest fiber found in plant material. Timothy grass hay provides the fiber necessary to maintain intestinal health, and makes Essentials - Adult Rabbit the veterinarian's number one choice for your adult rabbit.

  • Timothy hay-based
  • Optimum protein level
  • Ideal diet for adult rabbits
  • Recommended by veterinarians
  • Balanced calcium to phosphorus ratio
  • High fiber from quality digestible ingredients
  • Fresh! Straight from the farm!

Always change your rabbit's food gradually to allow the digestive system time to adapt. Some rabbits are resistant to change, so time and patience are needed when switching feeds.

Veterinarians Agree!

When you are concerned about the health of your rabbit, choose Essentials - Adult Rabbit. Adult pet rabbits have different nutritional needs than baby bunnies. Feed them the original timothy hay-based pellet fresh from the farm!

“Rabbits with low energy and BM difficulties improve significantly after being on Essentials - Adult Rabbit. I also notice improvement in the skin and coat texture.”
Dr. Linda Stern

“Essentials - Adult Rabbit has done really well as part of a reduction diet for obese or overweight rabbits. I really like the low calcium level and recommend it for many patients with urinary calculus problems.”
Dr. Carolyn Harvey
VCA Bay Area Pet Hospital, California USA

“One of our rabbits, Bunnicula, is over 9 years old. Some months ago, she was getting thin and listless, and had some other health issues. We thought she was simply getting old, and would soon pass on. My vet recommended we switch her from an alfalfa-based feed to a timothy-based one, so we turned to your timothy-based pellets. I am happy to report that, 6 months later, she has regained her weight (and energy!) and the health problems have all cleared up! Thanks, Oxbow - you saved our rabbit!”
George from Canada

“From my point of view, there is one preferred pellet - Oxbow Essentials - Adult Rabbit. Oxbow has been the only manufacturer to date to realize that basing a pellet on timothy just fundamentally makes more sense.”
Leah Postman, DVM
Windover Veterinary Clinic – Walpole, Massachusetts USA

“I like the low calcium level in Essentials - Adult Rabbit and recommend it for all my older rabbit patients.”
Peter Fisher, DVM
Pet Care Vet Hospital, Virginia USA

    Rabbits love this food

My two rabbits absolutely love this food, and I love that the pellets are healthy and nutritious for them. Whenever they hear me open the Oxbow bag in the morning, they race to the front of their pen and are falling over each other because they are so excited to eat their pellets (and they have hay in their.pen 24/7, so it's not that they are just hungry). Both rabbits are very healthy and energetic. I tried feeding them a different brand one time when my pet store was out of Oxbow Adult, and they would not touch it. I got more Oxbow the next day and they gobbled it up. I love that Oxbow makes an effort to understand small animal health and nutrition in a way that other companies just do not. I'll never buy another brand for any of my small pets. I also buy the Oxbow Strawberry Simple Rewards treats for the bunnies, and they go crazy for them.

This is by far the best rabbit food on the market. I have had rabbits for over 15 years and would recommend the Oxbow products to all rabbit people!!!! Any other products have resulted in loose stools for my rabbits, therefore I know that Oxbow is the BEST!

Only the best for my babies

I have 7 rescued house rabbits that are very spoiled. I did a lot of research on rabbit nutrition and the Oxbow adult rabbit food is by far the best product on the market. With a wide variety of sizes (ranging from 2.5 pound holland lop to a 12 pound new zealand) and health issues (over or under weight rabbits are common when rescued, GI troubles, bladder sludge tendencies, E Calculi, etc.) in my warren I needed a wonderful base to feed to all of the rabbits. This pellet is the one I trust for them all. My chubby buns slimmed down and the thin ones gained. Now everyone is a perfect weight and in good health. They also get lots of fresh hay, clean water, and daily greens to round out their diet for optimal health. Oxbow is the only pellet I have found that is Timothy based. That is important to me since it helps keep the calories reasonable, the protein appropriate, and the calcium lower than alfalfa based pellets. The feeding recommendations are also spot-on for weight maintenance. Many other junk foods I read the labels of encourage over feeding. I am confident that my rabbits are getting the well rounded nutrition and vitamins they need from this pellet. Feeding breakfast is always a joy because they run to their dishes to eat. It feels good to feed them something so healthy that they clearly love.

Other people in China says that some rabbits don't like Oxbow rabbit foods, but I think this is such a lie because my two bunnies absolutely LOVE this food. Whenever I go near the cages, they ask for it. A recommended rabbit food!
