Oxbow Animal Health Announces 2013-2014 Academic Scholarship Winners

Murdock, NE, June 2, 2014 -- Oxbow Animal Health, a leader in the innovative care and nutrition of small and exotic animals worldwide, has announced the recipients of its 2013-2014 Academic Scholarships. The Oxbow Academic Scholarships award annual financial support to five outstanding students pursuing education in the exotic and companion animal veterinary fields.

Oxbow scholarship winners are chosen for interest and involvement in the field of exotic animal health, excellence in the areas of academic achievement, and expression of future career goals and interests.

This year’s scholarship winners are:

  • Kelly Bockmann – Northwest High School (Grand Island, NE)
    Nebraska High School Scholarship
     
  • Amy McBirney – California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo, CA)
    Undergraduate Academic Scholarship
     
  • Lisa Griffith – Vet Tech Institute of Houston (Houston, TX)

  • Summer Marshall – Pima Community College (Tucson, AZ)
    Veterinary Technology Academic Scholarship
  • Mariann Lempert – Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (West Lafayette, IN)
    Veterinary Medicine Academic Scholarship

“We are very excited to recognize the 2013-2014 Oxbow scholarship recipients,” said Melissa Ross, Director of Marketing and Education for Oxbow.  “These outstanding students represent an exceptionally bright future for exotic animal medicine and care.  We are proud to support them as they pursue their dreams of becoming tomorrow’s leaders in these fields.” 

“As a veterinary student passionate about exotic animal medicine, there is no greater honor than receiving the Oxbow Animal Health Veterinary Scholarship,” said Mary Lempert, recipient of this year’s Veterinary Medicine Academic Scholarship.  “I have been a huge fan of Oxbow products for many years, and having the support of Oxbow means a great deal. This scholarship will go directly toward my tuition costs at Purdue University, helping me focus on school, research, club leadership, and volunteer work. I am so thankful for Oxbow’s support!”

Summer Marshall, recipient of this year’s Veterinary Technology Academic Scholarship, discussed how the Oxbow scholarship would help her achieve future goals when expressing her gratitude for the scholarship.  “This scholarship will definitely help me achieve my goal of working to care for wildlife,” said Marshall, a student at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.  “I'm flattered that Oxbow has recognized what achievements in wildlife rehab I have accomplished, and with this scholarship I will be able to do even better work to help these animals return to the wild.”
