Murdock, NE, August 24, 2009 --Oxbow Animal Health, a leader in providing premium nutrition for small exotic animals worldwide, has named Dr. Cathy Johnson-Delaney as the winner of the 2009 Oxbow Exotic Mammal Health Award. Established in 2009, the Oxbow Exotic Mammal Health Award is an annual award presented to an animal health professional who advances the field of exotic mammal medicine and care. Dr. Johnson-Delaney, a veterinarian specializing in avian/exotic animal medicine in the greater Puget Sound area, was honored with the award at the 2009 AEMV/AAV Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 9th, followed by a reception in her honor on August 11th.

“Cathy Johnson-Delaney exemplifies all of the qualities symbolized by the Oxbow Animal Health Exotic Mammal Health Award,” said John Miller, President of Oxbow Animal Health. “From her unwavering presence in both practice and professional organizations to a publishing and presentation record that is an undeniable testament to her dedication to scholarship and continued education within the field, Cathy’s distinguished career as a veterinarian represents a commitment not just to present health of the exotic industry, but a commitment to the future as well.”

Dr. Johnson-Delaney’s many professional appointments include serving as President of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, as Medical Director at the Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter in Kirkland, Washington, and as attending veterinarian at NW Zoological Supply, Inc/Tarantulas.com and at the Oregon Tiger Sanctuary in Eagle Point, Oregon. Dr. Johnson-Delaney is the consulting veterinarian at the Pacific Primate Sanctuary in Haiku, Maui, and treasurer and webmaster for the Association of NW Avian & Exotic Veterinarians. Cathy is the past president of AAV—an office she held from 1994 to 1995.

The Oxbow Exotic Mammal Health Award is based on excellence in one or more of the following areas: exhibiting leadership in the field of exotic mammal health, advancing the understanding of clinical diseases and treatments in exotic mammal pets, promoting the field of exotic mammal medicine, promoting the field of exotic mammal nutrition or providing innovation to the field of exotic mammal medicine. Nominations are made by submitting a CV and letter of recommendation describing the individual and how they exemplify the above qualities.
