Oxbow Announces 2017 Academic Scholarship Recipients

Murdock, NE, April 26, 2017-- Oxbow Animal Health, a leader in the innovative care and nutrition of small and exotic animals worldwide, has announced the recipients of its 2017 Academic Scholarships. The Oxbow Academic Scholarships award annual financial support to five outstanding students pursuing education in the exotic and companion animal veterinary fields.

Oxbow scholarship winners are chosen for interest and involvement in the field of exotic animal health, excellence in the areas of academic achievement, and expression of future career goals and interests. 

This year’s scholarship winners are: 

•    Taylor Stratman - Cross Country High School (Stromsburg, NE)
    Nebraska High School Scholarship

•    Allison Weaver - Washington State University (Pullman, WA)
    Undergraduate Academic Scholarship

•    Kyra Novick - LaGuardia Community College (Long Island City, NY)
    Veterinary Technology Academic Scholarship 

•    Chelsea Edwards - Delgado Community College (New Orleans, LA)
    Veterinary Technology Academic Scholarship

•    Jessica Eisenbarth - Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS)
    Veterinary Medicine Academic Scholarship

“I was delighted to receive the Oxbow scholarship which recognizes the importance of care for exotics such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas when most training is centered around cats and dogs,” said Kyra Novick, recipient of a 2017 Veterinary Technology Scholarship.  “Oxbow’s generous funds will help purchase my medical books, pay some tuition, fund transportation to my internship sites, and buy a brand-new stethoscope to listen to very small hearts. Thank you, Oxbow, for this vote of confidence in my future abilities to care for small and furry pets as well as orphaned wildlife.”

“I am extremely passionate about exotic animal species, their health and welfare, and public education about these species,” said Jessica Eisenbarth, recipient of the 2017 Veterinary Medicine Scholarship.  “I am so very honored for having been awarded this scholarship. It will allow me to pursue my passions of providing more readily available health care for these species and teach others about the unique things they have to offer.”
